School Homework Policy
Homework refers to any learning activity in curricular subjects that school requires students to complete outside of curriculum time, regardless of the mode of delivery (i.e. pen-and-paper, virtual/ online).
Examples of homework
- Pen and paper assignments (e.g. practice questions, essays, etc.)
- e-learning assignments (e.g. SLS lessons, recording of oral practices, etc.)
- Flipped classroom learning (e.g. watching assigned video, online lesson resources, etc)
- Alternative assessments (e.g. project work, performance task, etc.)
Purpose of Homework
- Homework is used to:
• reinforce what has been taught in class
• provide practice to check for understanding deepen understanding
• prepare for next day learning, e.g. pre-reading chapter
• consolidate learning
• gather feedback about students’ learning and serves to inform teachers on the necessary follow-up action
The table below shows the approximate daily and weekend homework duration for students and serves as a guide only.

For non-graduating Cohorts Mar & Sep breaks: No assignment of homework except book review (EL/MTL). Jun & Dec breaks: Homework assignments should not be more than 50% of the daily load given during school week.
For graduating cohorts Homework assignments should not be more than 50% of daily load given during school week.

Non-Submission and/or Non-Completion of Homework
• Teachers will work with students to find out the reasons for any non-submission and/or non-completion of homework. Where necessary, teachers will contact the parent or legal guardian to inform them and seek their support. Please note that repeated non-submission of homework may be considered a minor offence.
• If the child/ward is medically excused from school for an extended period, appropriate arrangements will be made to support the student with homework and other academic needs.
Responsibilities of Stakeholders
Parents/guardians and learners all play an important role in ensuring that homework serves its intended purposes.
Parents/guardians are to:
• create a home environment conducive for studying and completion of homework, with good light and space for studying
• set a regular schedule for completing homework for each day that is not interrupted by family plans, school activities or television time
• check Student Handbook for the daily list of homework assignments so that both the parents and the child can monitor progress on work
• supervise and provide support for child’s learning
• reinforce good study habits and attitudes by encouraging and motivating your child
• be mindful of the stresses arising from school homework and out-of-school activities, and help your children prioritise their time among these activities
• work in partnership with our teachers to support your child’s learning and development.
Students are to:
• refer to the homework whiteboard in the classroom for homework assignments
• record the homework assignments in the Student Handbook
• seek clarification on the homework given before going back home
• ensure that homework assignments are brought home to be completed and not left in school
• manage time well to ensure that homework is completed and submitted on time
• give his/her best effort in completing the homework.
